
Faced with the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, on October 6, the 21st ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM) and Working Groups were held in an online format.
The conference was chaired by the General Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) in Hanoi and from the online system in 10 ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.
At the Vietnam bridge, the conference was chaired by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien, with the participation of representatives of leaders of units under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. , the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the People's Committee of Hanoi, the Vietnam Coal-Mineral Industry Group and mineral enterprises.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Tran Quy Kien said that 2021 is an important pivotal year and a mid-term review on the implementation of ASEAN community building master plans in the five years 2021-2026; the pivotal year in Vietnam's tenure as the ASEAN Chair on minerals.
“In the framework of ASEAN cooperation, we have witnessed many cooperation activities in mineral exploitation have been implemented and achieved remarkable results. That is the successful development and implementation of the ASEAN Mineral Cooperation Action Plan (AMCAP) 2016-2020. In which, 4 AMCAP working groups have been established to implement the objectives of the master plan,” emphasized Mr. Kien.
In addition, in recent years, the ASEAN community has jointly developed and presented views on sustainable mineral exploitation at world conferences. The ASEAN Cooperation Action Plan on minerals 2016-2020 is continuing to be updated and implemented for the period 2021-2025.
On the other hand, the ASEAN community also discussed, agreed and implemented cooperation contents such as: ASEAN Geopark Program; mining award program in the ASEAN community, promoting effective management in the region towards environmental protection and sustainable development.

With the above importance, at today's conference, the representative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment emphasized that Vietnam wishes to promote connectivity and connectivity in the ASEAN region in order to improve adaptability and take advantage of the opportunities of the ASEAN region. fourth industrial network.

The conference program consists of 2 sessions. In particular, the morning session focused on recommendations from conferences held in 2021 on sustainable mineral exploitation. In the afternoon session, the conference will discuss content to move forward through the ASEAN cooperation action plan on minerals and update the progress of implementing priority economic solutions in the mineral sector in 2021.
The conference focused on main contents such as: Recommendations for implementation from ASEAN conferences; implementation of the ASEAN working plan on minerals; update on cooperation with intergovernmental forum on mining, minerals, metals and sustainable development; report on project progress to strengthen ASEAN cooperation on minerals; reports of ASEAN Mining Associations; approved the ASEAN Cooperation Action Plan on Minerals (AMCAP-III) for the second period in 2021-2025.
Along with that, the conference will also discuss the annual priority tasks of the mineral sector of the ASEAN region; time and place of the Annual Meeting 2022.
