Exports of agricultural products fell sharply in August 2021

(HNMO) - According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, despite the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, in the first eight months of 2021, the country's agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover will reach 32.1 billion USD, up 21.6% over the same period last year.

In which, the export of main agricultural products is estimated at over 13.9 billion USD, up 13.6%; main forest products reached about 11.2 billion USD, up 42.7%; seafood reached over 5.6 billion USD, up 7.1%; livestock production is estimated at 296 million USD, up 15.9%...

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, exports in the first eight months of 2021 increased compared to the same period last year, but exports of agricultural products in August 2021 recorded a large decrease. The export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery in August 2021 nationwide reached US$3.4 billion, down 21.6% compared to August 2020 and down 22% compared to July 2021.

Compared to July 2021, there were only 3 groups of products with export growth, including cassava and cassava products (up 26.6%), cereal products (up 1.1%), milk and dairy products (up 0.8%); The rest of the products fell sharply in export value.

Director of the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Quoc Toan analyzed that the main cause of this decline was the Covid-19 epidemic, which had a great impact on production activities. , processing by many processing enterprises/factories for export; Many businesses and factories only operate 30-40% of their capacity, even having to close due to Covid-19 cases.

Although the export value of most items decreased in August because of the negative impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, because the export turnover of the first months of the year increased sharply, in general, many products , the group of products with increased export value, including: Coffee, rubber, vegetables and fruits, pepper, cashew nut, cassava and cassava products, livestock products...

Regarding the import market, the United States is currently Vietnam's largest import market, in the first eight months of 2021, agricultural exports to this market reached over $9.3 billion (accounting for 29.1% of the market share), in which, wood and wood products accounted for 71% of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover to this market.

The second is the Chinese market, reaching nearly 6.1 billion USD (accounting for 18.9% of the market share) with vegetables and fruits accounting for 25.5% of the export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery. The third place is the Japanese market with an export value of over 2.2 billion USD; The fourth is the Korean market with an export value of over 1.4 billion USD.
