Rice exports have had many bright spots in the past 11 months

This is also the only product group to record growth in the first 11 months of 2023, with export turnover estimated at 29.5 billion USD, up 4.6% over the same period last year.

Prominent in this group are fruits and vegetables with export turnover in November estimated at 500 million USD, up 65.2% over the same period in 2022. Along with rice, vegetables and fruits are also bright spots in the export picture. The amount of rice exported in November increased by 19.3% and export turnover increased by 59.6% over the same period last year; Accumulated for 11 months, the amount of rice exported reached 7.75 million tons, an increase of 16.2% and rice export turnover is estimated at 4.4 billion USD, an increase of 36.3% over the same period in 2022.

Notably, the price of Vietnamese rice exports last week continued to rise to the highest level in 3 months thanks to strong demand.

Last week (November 27 - December 3), Vietnam's export price of 5% broken rice increased from 650 - 655 USD the previous week to 655 - 665 USD/ton. Export traders said that Vietnam's rice offering prices continue to stabilize and increase slightly due to limited domestic supply. In addition, domestic prices are also currently high, putting pressure on export prices, forcing businesses to offer high prices to make a profit.

Recently, thanks to promptly increasing production, rice exports have reached more than 7.7 million tons with a value of more than 4.4 billion USD, an increase of more than 16% in volume and more than 36% in value. Notably, only by mid-November, rice export results exceeded the results of the whole year 2022 (the whole year 2022 reached 7.1 million tons, turnover reached 3.45 billion USD).

In the industrial product group, many strong products tend to decline in export turnover compared to the same period last year. Diverse solutions to promote exports

However, the overall recovery momentum is still relatively slow and this trend is expected to continue in the near future because major economies in the world are still facing many difficulties in regaining momentum. growth, while global consumption has not yet shown a clear recovery.

Difficulties from the global economic downturn and decline in world demand, especially in the first months of the year, leading to a decrease in export orders, have affected the country's overall export results, so overall for the first 11 months of May. In 2023, merchandise export turnover is estimated to reach 322.5 billion USD, down 5.9% over the same period last year. With the recovery in recent months, the export decline continues to narrow quite a bit compared to the 12% decline in the first half of 2023.

Therefore, in the coming time, to promote the export of goods, the Ministry of Industry and Trade determines to promote negotiations, sign new agreements, commitments, trade links, sign FTAs, and trade agreements. Trade with other potential partners (UAE, MERCOSUR...) to diversify markets, products, and supply chains.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also promoted support for businesses to take advantage of commitments in FTA Agreements, especially CPTPP, EVFTA, UKVFTA Agreements to boost exports, through propaganda on rules of origin and issuance of Certificates of Origin, opportunities and ways to take advantage of opportunities from Agreements. In particular, continue to focus on trade defense work to protect domestic manufacturing industries, aiming for sustainable socio-economic development in the face of the increasing trend of trade defense investigations against goods.
