In September 2023, China is still Vietnam's largest export market for cassava and cassava products, accounting for 96.46% in volume and 95.68% in value of total cassava and cassava exports. cassava products of the whole country, reaching 253.52 thousand tons, worth 117.58 million USD, an increase of 19.5% in volume and an increase of 19.9% in value compared to August 2023; Compared to September 2022, it increased by 47.7% in volume and 50.6% in value.

The average export price of cassava and cassava products to China is at 463.8 USD/ton, up 0.4% compared to August 2023 and up 1.9% compared to September 2022.

The price of fresh cassava in the country increased slightly

In the domestic market, from the beginning of October 2023 until now, the price of fresh cassava in the Northern provinces has increased slightly, currently the purchasing price fluctuates at 1,950 - 2,000 VND/kg.

In the Central provinces, the price of fresh cassava is purchased at 2,300 - 2,400 VND/kg. The price of fresh cassava (30% powder reserve) purchased in Tay Ninh fluctuates at 3,700 - 3,950 VND/kg; In Dak Lak, the price fluctuates at 3,400-3,700 VND/kg; In Gia Lai, it fluctuates at 3,600-4,000 VND/kg.

According to the Vietnam Cassava Association, domestic and export cassava chips are not traded much and prices have decreased because corn prices are very low.

According to forecasts, the supply of cassava chips next season will be more abundant than the 2022/23 crop, while demand from the Chinese market is not high.

Currently, Vietnamese factories are offering cassava starch at prices ranging from 545 - 560 USD/ton FOB City port. Ho Chi Minh due to lack of raw materials and quite high prices.

The price of cassava starch delivered in Mong Cai and Lang Son fluctuates at 4,300 - 4,500 CNY/ton. The export price of iron slices to the Chinese market is about 285 USD/ton FOB Quy Nhon; while the export price to the Korean market is about 325 USD/ton FOB Quy Nhon.

In Quang Binh, in 2023, the whole province will grow more than 6,587 hectares of cassava, but productivity and output are expected to decrease compared to the previous crop year due to cassava mosaic disease. To date, the entire province has 2,097 hectares of cassava infected with cassava leaf mosaic disease, of which, Bo Trach district has 2,000 hectares, Le Thuy 40 hectares, Tuyen Hoa 30 hectares, Quang Trach 20 hectares, Minh Hoa 7 hectares. Currently, cassava crop year 2023 is preparing for harvest.

In Quang Nam, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the province's cassava growing area will reach 8,486 hectares, down 564 hectares compared to 2022. Statistics show that in the first 9 months of 2023, cassava production of Quang Nam province reached 148,500 tons, down 8,600 tons over the same period last year.

The reason for the decrease is unfavorable weather, especially recently, the whole province had up to 874 hectares of cassava damaged by mosaic disease. The average infection rate is 20 - 40%, in high places it is 50 - 70%, and in many cassava areas, 100% of plants are infected.
