Binh Thuan dragon fruit adds competitive advantage when exporting

This system helps domestic consumers and importing countries when buying dragon fruits grown in Binh Thuan can scan QR codes to trace the origin to know the amount of carbon in each production stage, know the level of practice "green" or eco-friendly of this fruit.

In this system, smart devices installed in the garden will automatically measure carbon emissions and update them in cyberspace, allowing real-time carbon footprint tracking and statistics.

In particular, this technology also analyzes to provide solutions to reduce carbon emissions in production. Specifically, if the garden switches to use electricity for lighting from compact bulbs to LED lights, it will help reduce up to 68% of emissions from electricity use.

In addition, if intercropping woody plants at the borders, boundaries, and gaps in the garden, it will significantly help absorb the carbon emissions released by dragon fruit trees. It is estimated that if the garden grows 100-300 woody trees/ha, it will absorb 0.9 - 2.8 tons of CO2/ha/year, equivalent to a reduction of 20-45% of emissions.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and UNDP, there are now 99 dragon fruit orchards in 4 units in Binh Thuan province, including: Hoa Le dragon fruit cooperative, Ham Minh cooperative, Thuan Tien cooperative, Phuc company Ha has been granted an account to participate in the carbon tracing system.

Mr. Patrick Haverman - Deputy Chief Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam, after shrimp, dragon fruit is the second agricultural product of Vietnam to apply the carbon traceability system and this will be a competitive advantage when exporting.

Currently, many export markets have requirements and are willing to pay high prices for products that comply with "green" and "green" standards in the production process.

Therefore, Mr. Patrick Haverman recommended that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development need to support farmers more in innovating production processes that contribute to reducing emissions, so that they can export agricultural products to export markets where there is no shortage of food. high economic value.
