Which products Vietnam imports from New Zealand increased by 1,108%?

According to the New Zealand Bureau of Statistics, the two-way turnover with Vietnam in the first five months of 2023 reached NZD 1.07 million, up 0.8% over the same period in 2022. In which, the export turnover of Vietnam reached 623.7 million NZD, up 3.3%, import turnover from New Zealand reached 452 million NZD, down 2.3%. Vietnam is New Zealand's 16th largest import partner, and New Zealand's 13th largest export partner.

Despite being affected by natural disasters, New Zealand's import demand still tends to increase to adapt and rebuild, to compensate for damage caused by storms and floods. Total imports of New Zealand increased by 10.3% over the same period in 2022, reaching NZD 34.5 billion, Vietnam accounted for 1.9% of New Zealand's import market share, reaching NZD 623 million, up 3.3% compared to the same period in 2022 (NZD 603 million).

In the first 5 months of 2023, there are 7 export items of Vietnam to New Zealand with a decrease in turnover, including: Construction materials (-15.5%); aquatic products (-15%), wood and wood products (-41.2%); ceramic products (-78.2%); sports equipment and accessories (-28%); furniture and lighting equipment (-12.6%); plastic and plastic products (-1.7%), all remaining items mostly had above 2-digit growth.

In which, the most impressive growth items are edible products (+44.9%); surface cleaners, dental preparations (+41.9%); medical instruments and equipment (+44.6%); iron and steel (+44.2%); paper and paper products (+25.3%); rubber and rubber products (+22.2%).

Regarding the market share of each type of goods imported into New Zealand by Vietnam, the largest items include: fruits , nuts (7.6%), seafood (11.9%); textiles (8.1%); processed meat and fish (5.8%), machinery and electronic equipment (4.4%), tea and coffee (5.1%).

In the opposite direction, New Zealand's export turnover to Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2023 reached NZD 452 million, down 2.3% over the same period in 2022 (NZD 463 million).

In terms of proportion, the top Vietnamese imports from New Zealand include: dairy products (60%), fruits, nuts (19.7%), wood and wood products (4.4%) ), edible preparations (5.2%).

In terms of growth rate, imported goods from New Zealand with high growth rate include: Paper, paper and cardboard products (+1,108%), pharmaceutical chemical products (+138%). ; dairy (+13.5%).

Products from paper and cardboard especially increased sharply, Vietnam imported a larger amount of NZD 7 million, an increase of 828% over the same period in 2022.

Besides, the decreased items include: Iron, steel (-99.8%); substances containing albumin, modified starches, glues, enzymes (-76%); electrical machinery and related accessories (-60%); animal feed (-21%); aluminum (-60%); wood (-42%).
