Export of vegetables and fruits in June 2023 was estimated to bring in nearly 0.95 billion USD, up 2.6 times compared to June 2022. In the first 6 months of 2023, fruit and vegetable export turnover is estimated at 2.8 billion USD.

Durian exports are achieving very positive results

At the regular meeting of the domestic market management team in June 2023, which took place recently, Mr. Le Thanh Hoa - Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development informed , a "shining star" of agricultural products exported since the beginning of the year is durian. According to statistics, in the first 5 months of the year, the export turnover of this fruit reached more than USD 503 million, up 18 times over the same period last year.

Currently, the Chinese market accounts for 95% of the export value of Vietnamese durian. This is a very positive result from the fact that Vietnam officially signed the Protocol to officially export durian to China in July 2022. By the end of May, the Chinese side had approved 47 more area codes and 18 satisfactory durian packing facilities, bringing the total number of planting areas and packing facilities to 293 and 115 establishments approved by the Chinese side. issue official export codes.

Besides, Vietnamese durian not only focuses on exporting to the Chinese market but has been expanded to markets such as the US, EU, Japan, Australia, UK...

For example, at the beginning of May, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in the UK, a shipment of Ri6 durian of about five tons from Vietnam, which was officially imported by TT Meridian Ltd (UK), was cleared and distributed to supermarkets in Vietnam. Older brother.

This result, thanks to the preferential tax-free import into the UK under the UK - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) along with outstanding quality, has helped Ri6 Vietnam durian have a competitive advantage in the market. UK compared with durians from other countries.

For example, Vietnamese durian enjoys a preferential tax rate of 0% under UKVFTA while durian imported from countries without tax incentives is subject to a tax rate of 8%.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, if this favorable momentum continues, durian export turnover this year may reach the milestone of 1 billion USD.

Mr. Le Thanh Hoa shared, the success of durian export shows that the policy of converting crops to durian has been effective, helping to improve people's lives, increase incomes and contribute to the general public. on the overall achievements of fruit and vegetable exports and agricultural products in particular. As a result, the export turnover of vegetables and fruits after 6 months has increased very strongly, almost equal to the whole year of 2023, up 64%.

However, Mr. Le Thanh Hoa also pointed out that due to the impact of customs clearance, durian exports to China are facing some difficulties.

“The reason is that according to the agreement between Vietnam and China customs, litchi is the priority fruit for export. Because litchi is in the main season, so the export volume is large, every time it is brought to the border gate, priority is given to customs clearance. Therefore, other products such as jackfruit, dragon fruit, durian… sometimes get stuck," explained Mr. Le Thanh Hoa.

Meanwhile, durian is a fast-ripening fruit, so if the clearance time is long, the quality of the fruit will be affected, causing the car to return to the domestic market, the value will decrease. Therefore, if there is a better customs clearance policy, surely the results of durian exports to China will be better.
