Could you please share a few details about the achievements of import and export activities in 2022?

In 2022, import and export activities take place in the specific context of the world's socio-economic situation, and the effects of the increase in raw material prices and the disruption of supply also have negative impacts. small to import and export activities.

However, with the import and export results of 2022, we have achieved remarkable achievements. With total import and export turnover has exceeded 730 billion USD. In which, exports reached 371.3 billion USD and had a double-digit growth compared to 2021.

At the same time, we also recorded growth in all product groups in 2022. Especially, 2022 is also the seventh consecutive year that we have a trade surplus with a trade surplus of over 10 billion. USD.

Import and export report is considered as the official manual, updating the most useful information on import and export activities. So what is the expectation of the drafting committee about the effectiveness of this book for import and export activities? After 6 years of publication, how has the Drafting Board received positive feedback from associations and businesses?

Ms. Nguyen Cam Trang - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department: The Ministry of Industry and Trade always focuses on updating information on the export market situation so that businesses can capture and export effectively.

Vietnam Import and Export Report is an annual publication released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade from 2016 to present. This is a document that provides an overview of import and export activities, the picture of import and export in the whole year, including: Import and export situation by item, by specific markets, and at the same time also is an overview of all state management activities, mechanisms and policies related to import and export activities, legal documents issued in that year.

After 6 years of issuance, the Vietnam Import-Export Report has received very positive feedback from the beneficiaries who are associations, state management agencies, and businesses.

For businesses, this will be a useful reference for businesses to get information about the market situation, product situation as well as import and export management mechanisms and policies, to have a plan, have their own production, business and especially export plans.

For state management agencies as well as associations and other organizations, they also highly appreciate this and consider this as a reference source that agencies and organizations can cite in the process. its activities.

During the process of drafting and publishing the report, were you impressed with the breakthrough of any industry or locality? If yes, could you please share the information?

In 2022, with the overall positive result of export growth, especially this growth rate is recorded in all three commodity groups, which are: Group of agricultural products and aquatic products; group of mineral fuels and group of processing and manufacturing industries.

In all product groups, the ones that we can see in the group of agricultural products and aquatic products have a very rapid breakthrough. Notably, out of 9 agricultural and aquatic products, 7 products will achieve positive growth in 2022. In which, seafood is an item with impressive growth and has reached the finish line first, surpassing plan with a turnover of 11 billion USD in 2022. Key markets of seafood such as the United States also achieve high growth in 2022.

On the contrary, will import and export activities in 2022 record a slow growth of any commodity group or locality? And what is the reason?

In fact, there are very few products with negative growth in 2022, but among those items, there are vegetables and fruits, which are an item whose export turnover will decrease by more than 5% in 2022. The main reason is the decrease from the Chinese market - the largest export market of our vegetables and fruits.

Why such results? We all know that in the past year, China has maintained measures to limit trade and travel to control the Covid-19 epidemic. Therefore, it has affected the export turnover of vegetables and fruits.

However, we also expect better growth in 2023 with positive signals from the reopening of the Chinese market, as well as the fact that we have more fruit products exported. official export to the Chinese market.

In the past time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has made great efforts to implement measures for enterprises to promote the shift to official export of goods, including vegetables and fruits to the Chinese market.

In 2023, import and export activities are facing many difficulties. What solutions will the Ministry of Industry and Trade deploy to support businesses? Also, how will the dissemination of information, including the release of this report, continue?

The export results of the first quarter of 2023 show that we are really facing difficulties. And these difficulties come from the foreign market when the demand of our main markets is reduced, the inventory is still large, the difficulties in raw material prices are still high. Therefore, exports in the first quarter of 2023 had a decrease.

In that context, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has made efforts to implement many measures: From measures related to removing difficulties for production to create a source of goods for export, to measures to facilitate manufacturing enterprises. export and export in terms of administrative procedures. And more important are market development measures such as: Taking advantage of opportunities from FTAs, or trade promotion, especially market information work.

Of all the measures I have just recommended above, one of the measures that the Ministry of Industry and Trade always focuses on and pays great attention to is: Updating information about the market situation for businesses, information about mechanisms and policies, on new regulations of the markets so that enterprises can grasp and take the initiative in their production and business plans.

The annual import and export report is also one of the activities to provide information for businesses. We will release the 2023 report soon. Drafting is expected later this year for release early next year. And this report publishing activity is expected to continue annually to support and provide information to businesses as well as associations.
