According to the General Department of Customs , in December 2022, the whole country imported 21,895 CBU cars of all kinds, with a total turnover of 431.55 million USD. This is the month with the second largest number of imported cars in 2022 (the highest month is November 2022 with nearly 23,000 vehicles).

Vietnam imports the most cars from Indonesia and Thailand

For the whole year of 2022, Vietnam imported 173,467 cars of all kinds, with a total turnover of 3.84 billion USD, up 8.5% in volume and 5.1% in turnover compared to 2021.

Thus, 2022 is the year with the highest number of imported cars ever, far exceeding the result of the previous record year 2021 with nearly 160,000 vehicles.

Indonesia and Thailand are the two largest import markets. Notably, Indonesia has surpassed Thailand in terms of imported cars, but the "golden pagoda land" is still No. 1 in terms of turnover.

Specifically, last year, Vietnam imported 72,671 vehicles from Indonesia, with a turnover of more than 1.05 billion USD; while Thailand's result was 72,032 vehicles, with a turnover of 1.43 billion USD. The third place also comes from an Asian country, China with 17,340 vehicles, turnover of 714.5 million USD.

With 162,043 vehicles, the three markets mentioned above alone accounted for 93.4% of the country's imported cars, even exceeding the total number of imported cars in 2021.
