Vietnam's pork imports continue to decline in October 2022

The Import and Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) quoted statistics from the General Department of Customs as saying that, in the 10 months of 2022, Vietnam imported 544.97 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth 1.21 billion USD, down 11.9% in volume, but up 2.1% in value over the same period in 2021.

In October 2022, Vietnam imported meat and meat products from 33 markets around the world. In which, India is the largest supplier of meat and meat products to Vietnam, with 13.07 thousand tons, worth $41.81 million, up 114.1 percent in volume and 208.9 percent in volume. % in value compared to October 2021, accounting for 20.4% of the total amount of meat and meat products imported from Vietnam in the month. The average import price of meat and meat products from India to Vietnam was at $3,199/ton, up 44.3% compared to October 2021.

In the first 10 months of 2022, Vietnam imported 130.12 thousand tons of meat and meat products from India, worth US$418.63 million, up 51.1% in volume and 51.2% in value. value compared to the same period in 2021.

In the coming time, the demand for meat and meat products is expected to increase due to the high demand for food during the Lunar New Year. However, because Vietnam's meat supply is quite abundant, basically meeting the domestic consumption demand, it is forecast that the import of meat and meat products will not increase suddenly in the near future.

In which, imports of pork and poultry continued to decrease over the same period in 2021; While imports of buffalo meat and beef continued to increase sharply compared to the same period in 2021. Vietnam's pork imports continued to decline in October 2022.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in October 2022, Vietnam imported 11.87 thousand tons of fresh chilled or frozen pork, worth 26.02 million USD, down 5.6% in volume and 22.4% in value compared to October 2021; the average import price reached 2,192 USD/ton, down 17.8% compared to October 2021.

Accumulated in 10 months of 2022, imports of fresh chilled or frozen pork reached 88.82 thousand tons, worth USD 189.02 million, down 34.4% in volume and 39.6% in value compared to same period in 2021.

In the 10 months of 2022, Vietnam imported fresh chilled or frozen pork from 30 markets, of which it was mainly imported from: Brazil accounted for 37.3%; Russia accounted for 24.9%; Germany accounted for 12.8%; Canada accounted for 8%; The Netherlands accounts for 4.7% of the country's total pork imports. Except for Brazil, the amount of pork imported from these markets all decreased compared to the same period in 2021.
