Vietnam's pangasius exports to the ASEAN market will surpass the EU market

ASEAN is one of the market blocks that accounts for a significant proportion of Vietnam's total pangasius exports, and is tending to increase imports of this product.

With breakthrough and continuous growth in recent years, up to now, the proportion of the ASEAN market has been nearly equivalent to that of the EU in Vietnam's total pangasius exports.

Major markets in ASEAN include Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore.

In which, Thailand alone accounts for 3.6% of Vietnam's pangasius export value. Pangasius exports to this market by the end of the third quarter of 2022 reached over $70 million, up 81% over the same period in 2021. In September alone, pangasius exports to Thailand increased by 165%.

The most breakthrough in September was the Philippines market, with an increase of 5 times over the same period and therefore, by the end of the third quarter, pangasius exports to this market increased by 92%, reaching over 25 million USD, accounting for 1. 3% of total pangasius exports.

The second place in terms of consumption of Vietnamese pangasius in ASEAN is Singapore with over 28 million USD in the first 9 months of this year, up 56% over the same period. Particularly in September, pangasius exports to Singapore more than tripled.

Malaysia also accounts for the same proportion as the Philippines in Vietnam's total pangasius exports with pangasius import turnover of over $26 million in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 114%. In September, pangasius exports to this market also increased sharply by 138%.

Although accounting for a modest proportion, other countries in ASEAN such as Cambodia, Indonesia, and Laos have all tended to strongly increase imports of Vietnam's pangasius, with a growth rate of 3 to 23 times over the same period last year. 2021.

In the context of 2022, the sharp increase in transportation costs is a disadvantage for the pangasius export industry because the selling price is not high compared to other seafood species, so markets with geographical locations are close to other countries. ASEAN is also a suitable choice of some pangasius enterprises.

Particularly for the Thai market, there are currently 70 Vietnamese enterprises exporting pangasius products to this country. In which, the leading pangasius enterprises to this market are Nam Viet Joint Stock Company (accounting for about 30% of the market share), Hung Phuc Thinh Food Joint Stock Company (accounting for 11%), and CP Livestock Joint Stock Company. Vietnam (accounting for 9%), Cuu Long An Giang Seafood Import-Export Joint Stock Company accounted for 6%...

The Singapore market also attracts more than 70 Vietnamese enterprises participating in exporting pangasius, with the leading enterprises being Van Duc Tien Giang Co., Ltd., Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company, Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company, Co. An My Seafood Import-Export Joint Stock Company, Dai Thanh Company Limited…

With the current growth rate, ASEAN tends to occupy a larger proportion of pangasius exports, possibly surpassing the EU market in the near future.
