At a meeting on building the livestock value chain held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the afternoon of October 27, Mr. Dinh Quyet Tam - Chairman of the Vietnam Beekeeping Association - said that in the 9 months of 2022, The whole honey industry 's export is estimated at nearly 24 thousand tons, worth about 41 million USD.

Notably, although the US Department of Commerce (DOC) imposed an anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese honey from 58.74 to 61.27%, Vietnam's honey export turnover to this market reached 11 thousand tons. , accounting for 44.5% of Vietnam's export market share in the first 9 months of 2022; exports to the EU market reached 6,600 tons, accounting for 27-28%; exports to the UK market reached 2,129 tons, accounting for 9%; Export to markets Taiwan, Thailand. Indonesia, Japan accounted for 19%.

Thus, the United States is still the main market of Vietnamese honey despite being subject to anti-dumping tax of about 60%.

The result is due to the efforts of the Government, the ministries and functional departments have struggled to bring the US anti-dumping tax rate on Vietnamese honey from above 410% to 58.74 - 61.27%. This is considered to have reopened the US market for Vietnamese honey. Because the United States is an important market that consumes nearly 90% of Vietnam's honey production. Meanwhile, Vietnam's honey industry 90% of output is for export.

“Around March and April 2023, the US will periodically investigate, if Vietnam's bee industry does better, it is expected that this anti-dumping tax rate will continue to decrease and will promote honey exports to Vietnam. this market”, said Mr. Dinh Quyet Tam.

Despite difficulties in export markets, however, Mr. Dinh Quyet Tam said that the US market's demand for honey for Vietnamese honey is still very large. This is a favorable factor for Vietnam's honey export. "From now until the end of the year, the US side can import about 15,000 tons from Vietnam," said Mr. Dinh Quyet Tam.

While the export market faces certain difficulties, the domestic market is very good. Mr. Dinh Quyet Tam said that consumers not only use honey as medicine, but now many families use honey as a sweetener instead of sugar. This is a very good sign.

According to experts, although the honey industry is very small, this product has now been exported to many big countries, including the United States, EU, Japan, Korea... These markets all accept honey. Vietnam, this means that Vietnamese honey meets the requirements of the most demanding markets, from traceability to disease record management.

With the continued export to the United States, along with more careful preparation from beekeepers, the manufacturing industry and even honey exporters, experts say, Vietnam's honey businesses Nam can be further reduced tax in the near future.
