Demand increases, shrimp export turnover maintains growth momentum

The increased demand for shrimp in world markets is the driving force for shrimp farmers to promote stocking and provide raw materials for enterprises to process and export this item.

Following the growth momentum with shrimp export turnover reaching more than 900 million USD in the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam's shrimp exports in April 2022 are forecast to increase by 20% over the same period in 2021.

Mr. Hoang Van Duy, Mekong Seafood Connection Limited Liability Company shared that shrimp demand will continue to be promoted in the European market, the US market and markets that need food supplies for the summer. Importers and distributors in the European market will prepare orders from this point on. Therefore, farmers will continue to benefit from the recovery of the market and world demand.

As for the US - Vietnam's largest shrimp import market, the good growth in this market has helped Vietnam maintain its No. 4 position in the main shrimp suppliers for the US. According to the Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, currently, inflation in the US has increased sharply, but with the US economic stabilization policies, shrimp demand is expected to increase strongly this year.

With the needs of the market in the coming time, Vietnamese shrimp processing and exporting enterprises have quickly planned production to meet order contracts.

Mr. Tran Van Linh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading Joint Stock Company shared that Thuan Phuoc has a wide network of customers from the US, EU, Japan, Korea and these customers all have demand to increase the quantity of imports to supply the market in the coming time.

The increased demand for shrimp in world markets is also a driving force for shrimp farmers to promote stocking and provide raw materials for processing and exporting enterprises. When importers require large quantities, the price of raw shrimp will gradually increase, helping shrimp producers to have more profits.

According to Mr. Ngo Cong Luan, Director of Nong Ngu 4/10 Cooperative in Soc Trang, when the market needs it, producers are motivated to stock and invest in technology to produce the best quality shrimp possible. Nong Ngu Cooperative 10/14 produces shrimp according to European ASC (Responsible Aquaculture Stewardship Council) standards.

With this standard, the cooperative's shrimp raw materials can be exported to the European market and some other fastidious markets. Also from the equipment and technical investment, the selling price of shrimp meeting ASC standards will be 4,900 VND/kg higher than the price of non-standard shrimp.

Due to the increasing demand for shrimp, many farmers in the Mekong Delta have increased investment in technology and shrimp farming technology to supply for export.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thua, Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province shared that from information that difficult markets only import shrimp produced according to food safety standards, he has boldly invested. technical equipment system for shrimp production according to high technology.

Although the initial capital is not small, with this production method, the rate of shrimp reaches the highest quality, easily overcomes technical barriers when put into inspection and is purchased at a high price.

According to statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the shrimp farming area in the country is currently over 740,000 ha; output reaches over 900,000 tons/year. Particularly, the output of black tiger shrimp reached over 250,000 tons, ranking first in the world.

Although shrimp area only increased by about 1.5%/year, shrimp production increased sharply by 10%/year. This factor proves the continuous improvement of the farming process, with a much higher yield than before. The prosperous market and good production capacity will help Vietnamese shrimp products continue to affirm their position in other countries./.
