Big win in US and Chinese markets, Vietnam pangasius exports revived

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first two months of this year, the picture of Vietnam's pangasius export (export) featured a "green growth" in most major markets. total export value reached 384.8 million USD, up 93.6% over the same period last year.

In which, pangasius exports to the US reached US$94.57 million, up 119.7% over the same period last year. February alone reached nearly 42 million USD, up 167%. The US is currently the number 1 market for Vietnamese pangasius exports. It is forecast that the recovery and strong demand of the US market will continue in the first half of this year.

Pangasius exports to the second largest market, China - Hong Kong also grew strongly in the first two months of this year when reaching US$85.8 million, up 239.6% over the same period in 2021, although fish exports Vietnam's inspection to this market faced many difficulties due to China's strict control policy of frozen food imports.

Up to now, exporting pangasius to China has also faced many difficulties. Notably, during this period, the export value of pangasius to Hong Kong increased by over 111% over the same period last year. This is a positive signal after nearly 2 years of unstable export of Vietnamese pangasius to Hong Kong.

For the CPTPP market, Vietnam's pangasius exports to the CPTPP in the first two months of this year reached US$52.5 million, up 51.4% over the same period last year. In which, exports to Mexico reached 18.3 million USD (up 23.3%); to Canada reached 9.6 million USD (up 81.5%); to Australia reached 6.8 million USD (up 19%); to Malaysia reached 5.6 million USD (up nearly 165%).

If the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the world is well controlled and the economy returns to normal, it is forecasted that in at least the next two quarters, pangasius exports to the CPTPP will see double-digit growth.

Meanwhile, after at least 2 consecutive years of decline, Vietnam's pangasius exports to the EU have returned to hope. In the first two months of this year, pangasius exports to the EU reached nearly $28 million, up nearly 76% over the same period last year. In which, exports to the Netherlands increased by 78.3%; Germany increased 98%; Belgium increased 64.3%; Spain up 53%...

In addition to the main markets mentioned above, the export value of pangasius to other potential markets such as Brazil, Thailand, UAE, and the UK also grew well over the same period last year.
