According to statistics of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), there are currently over 5 million overseas Vietnamese living and working in 190 countries and territories. Up to now, there are about 3,500 projects and enterprises established or contributed by overseas Vietnamese in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of 11 billion USD, of which many overseas Vietnamese have invested in the agricultural sector.

Over the years, the agricultural sector has continuously grown and developed comprehensively in all fields. The export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products has continuously increased, from 4.2 billion USD in 2000 to 48.6 billion USD in 2021. Vietnam currently has 6 groups of products with over 3 billion USD and 10 agricultural products. , forestry and fishery products with export turnover of over 1 billion USD. Vietnamese agricultural products have been exported to over 180 countries and territories around the world.

At the Forum connecting overseas businesses to promote trade and investment in the agricultural sector taking place on February 14, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu emphasized: "Over the past time, we are very pleased to witness many practical contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community in the field of agriculture. Although overseas Vietnamese's distribution and promotion facilities for Vietnamese products are still limited, they have covered many countries and territories, contributing to promoting Vietnamese products to international friends. ".

According to Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu, a number of trade centers and markets in Vietnam are large and have plenty of room for domestic cooperation. In addition, many overseas Vietnamese have returned home to invest, trade and develop high-tech products in the agricultural sector, contributing to increasing productivity and product quality; create more job opportunities for local workers; contribute to the conservation of precious agricultural products and the development of high yielding plant varieties.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said that, despite being far away from home, each Vietnamese person has become an important bridge to introduce to the world the agricultural products of Vietnam as well as to the world. bringing foreign investment into the country. From the big commercial centers of overseas Vietnamese such as: Incentra in Moscow, Dong Xuan in Berlin, Sapa in the Czech Republic, ASEAN Garden Mall in the US, Thanh Binh Jeune in France, Ben Thanh market in Australia, to the shops. Restaurants, supermarkets, eateries, cafes... whether small or large, of overseas Vietnamese all show the mind of Vietnamese people to bring products to all four directions.

The contribution of expatriates also includes valuable knowledge and experience that is helping the agricultural industry transform through sharing and bringing new technologies and advanced production models into production such as high-tech shrimp farming, fertilizer Smart fertilizer, multi-layer agricultural product preservation packaging. "We hope that you will continue to act as a bridge to bring Vietnamese agricultural products to the top and reach far in the global value chain," said the Deputy Minister.

The plan to bring agricultural products far

Dr. Hoang Manh Hue, President of the Vietnam Business Association in Europe, assessed that Vietnam has a rich and diverse source of agricultural and forestry products, with great potential for export to European countries. Therefore, domestic enterprises, in addition to selling directly to businesses of host countries, need to aim to conquer this market. To do that, businesses need to learn about the market, the law, the culture... The Vietnamese community in Europe will be a very valuable source of information, ready to provide authentic information, quickly for domestic enterprises, ready to act as a bridge between domestic enterprises and distribution units in Europe.

However, at present, the connection between the Vietnamese community in Europe and domestic enterprises is still loose, leading to businesses losing a lot of business opportunities. To solve this problem, it is necessary to promote the role of domestic organizations and industry associations in strengthening links with Vietnamese organizations and businesses in Europe through seminars and forums. .. to exchange information. According to Mr. Hue, should create a common data center so that expatriates and businesses can access to exchange information closely and conveniently. In addition, it is necessary to take advantage of the potential commercial center of Vietnamese people in Europe to bring Vietnamese agricultural products into consumption.

Nguyen Hoai Daniel, founder and director of Song Cai Distillery, a company whose main products are high-end wines, said: “In order to develop a brand, we not only build a system of geographical indications. stronger legal framework, but also to protect copyright and guide people to unite and make products of high value”.

With overseas business associations, it is necessary to build trade promotion centers, organize regular connections with domestic business associations to capture information. For foreign investors in Vietnam, there must be binding conditions when enjoying incentives from investment policies.

Vo Van Long, Chairman of the Vietnam Business Association in Germany shared: “Our strength is having a community of more than 220,000 Vietnamese people living in the Federal Republic of Germany. Therefore, I hope that our State will pay attention to and appreciate the European market, especially in Germany."

According to Mr. Long, we should build a bridge between Vietnamese businesses and Europe through businesses in Germany, because this is a very large and potential market. If our goods can enter Germany, they can certainly enter other markets.

In order to improve the value of Vietnamese agricultural products, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan, CEO of Meet More Coffee emphasized, it is necessary to promote deep processing to develop added value. This is a key factor to build a brand name for products in domestic and international markets. Mr. Luan proposed specific solutions: Should assign targets to the chamber of commerce in the host country on the development and support of domestic enterprises to promote trade in agricultural products; at the same time, build galleries about Vietnamese agricultural products; linking alumni associations and Vietnamese communities in the host country.
