Congested border gate, jackfruit, durian... "landed" on the streets of Hanoi

Over the past few days, hundreds of trucks carrying agricultural products have been stuck at the border gate of Lang Son province. Leaders of Lang Son Department of Industry and Trade said that the inventory until December 31 at 3 border gates: Huu Nghi, Tan Thanh and Chi Ma was 2,945 vehicles.

The main reason was determined that the Chinese side is still implementing the "Zero COVID" policy, the delivery process is very tight to control the risk of disease.

Due to the long waiting time, agricultural products have begun to deteriorate, so businesses and shippers choose the solution to turn around, switch to domestic consumption to recover some of the cost.

As noted by reporters, on streets like Le Duc Tho, Giai Phong, Nguyen Xien... Thai jackfruit, dragon fruit, and watermelon are sold on sidewalks at cheap prices. Many people in the capital came to buy and support small businesses.

On social networking sites, images of rescuing agricultural products due to congestion at Lang Son border gate were also shared. There are individuals who gather in groups to support goods owners and consumers in the hope of reducing damage.

On the afternoon of December 31, 2021, the Asia-Africa Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) coordinated with the Departments of Industry and Trade of Lang Son, Quang Ninh and Cao Bang provinces to conduct an online conference with the Guangxi Department of Commerce. China) to exchange urgent measures to ease the current congestion of goods in the border area with Guangxi.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has just requested the Guangxi Department of Commerce, China to immediately restore temporarily closed border gates and extend the time for customs clearance of goods.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also proposed the Guangxi side to agree on a plan to use and supplement full-time drivers on each side; piloting bringing workers who have had enough vaccinations against COVID-19 in Vietnam's border localities to work at the Chinese border gate area. This is to solve the problem of shortage of drivers and workers for loading and unloading.

The two sides will also carry out customs clearance through railway and sea border gates and facilitate the clearance of dragon fruit from Vietnam.

Before this proposal, the leader of the Guangxi Department of Commerce said that it would extend the clearance time on the basis of calculation, discussion and agreement of the local authorities on both sides of the border. With other proposals of Vietnam, this Department will take note and report to superiors.
