Lack of quality human resources for the Logistics industry

As a country with a propensity for production and export, in Vietnam, logistics services from start to finish are very important for the operation of the supply chain. The development speed and potential of logistics services is great, but currently the quality of human resources to meet the industry is still limited.

The training connection between universities, associations, businesses (DN) and localities is very necessary and urgent to improve the industry's capacity to respond in the future.

* High demand, low and weak supply

Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association, said that human resources play an important role in the sustainable development of logistics in Vietnam, but have not yet promoted the role. Vietnam has about 3,000 enterprises with logistics-related activities and it is expected that by 2030, the demand for logistics human resources will be over 200,000. Meanwhile, the ability to meet the demand for logistics human resources is only about 10% of the market's demand, so it can be said that logistics human resources in Vietnam are lacking in both quantity and quality.

Similarly, in Dong Nai, Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Import-Export Association, Director of Hung Thinh Phat Company Limited (specializing in freight services, container transport and import-export services) for Or, the number of logistics enterprises in the province has initially grown, but the scale is small, the operation is not really professional, and the competition is fierce with foreign service providers.

“Small enterprises, lacking skills and professional logistics services, compete with each other, so they cannot grow, partly due to the lack of quality human resources, enterprises have to retrain but still not much," said Mr. Hung.

With the Long Thanh International Airport project, a deep-water seaport system, more than 30 industrial parks and a network of highways, Dong Nai has many advantages to become the logistics center of the whole region. The problem is that in addition to the preparation of the infrastructure, the training must also be calculated as soon as possible. The calculation of Dong Nai logistics planning is to attract businesses not only in the province but other provinces and cities in the region to do import-export services. Currently, many enterprises of Dong Nai are still doing import-export services in Ho Chi Minh City, while the locality has a distinct advantage in terms of river routes, the port system can be developed.

In the long term, the trend of moving out of urban centers will be mainstream. Without good preparation, especially in terms of human resources, it will be difficult for the province to capture and take advantage of these advantages.

Expand connectivity to improve responsiveness

Many experts believe that building human resources in the logistics field in Vietnam requires the active participation and commitment of stakeholders, including: Government, local authorities, logistics enterprises and vocational schools. In particular, it is necessary to closely coordinate between specialized agencies and enterprises in order to accurately identify labor and recruitment needs. In addition, the State needs to develop professional standards for logistics, support schools to invest in facilities and equipment in the field of logistics...

Realizing this, the Government has issued an action plan to improve competitiveness and develop logistics services in Vietnam by 2025. In which, the training of human resources to serve the industry is identified as very important. including the contents of promoting logistics training, especially at the university level, improving the quality and quantity of logistics lecturers. Basic training in logistics for business managers and state managers. Connecting training organizations, Vietnamese logistics enterprises with foreign training organizations.

Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu added that the Vietnam Logistics Human Resource Development Association established this year also aims for the above goal and the association will have many plans to promote this connection and connection.

Not only expanding the connection and training between schools and enterprises, but also the cooperation of enterprises together is very necessary.

On November 5, Hung Nhon Group, one of the leading corporations in Vietnam in the field of animal husbandry, with pig and chicken farms in many provinces and cities in the Southeast, Central Highlands, as well as other fields. Real estate, manufacturing, other trade, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Thong Quan Co., Ltd., one of the typical logistics enterprises of Dong Nai. Accordingly, the two sides aim to cooperate in order to invest and develop the application of information technology 4.0 in logistics activities; import and export entrustment services, customs procedures; multi-modal transportation services, super-long and super-heavy items; commercial services of buying, selling, importing and exporting agricultural products, connecting domestic and international suppliers and distributors; warehouse rental service.

Mr. Dang Van Diem, Director of Thong Quan Co., Ltd. said that this is an opportunity for enterprises to raise their level of activities. “We hope that the cooperation between the two units will create opportunities for long-term mutual development and close coordination to successfully implement other projects in the future, especially in the fields of transportation, logistics and transportation. supply chain, providing services to customers in the best way” - Mr. Diem wishes.
